Analysis of role and determinant factors development of beef cattle farming in Dharmasraya regency West Sumatera province

Abstract This study aims to investigate the model of beef cattle farming, role in development livestock subsector, and determinant factors Dharmasraya Regency. The method used this is a combination survey desk methods. variables measured were rearing model, sub-sector, farming data analysis descriptive statistics, Location Quotient (LQ), Structural Equation Model (SEM). Results showed that main job respondents (66%) farmers, who generally (82%) had ranging from 1-5 heads, raising system carried out by farmers general (75%) was intensive, most raised their livestock. Access technology, mainly artificial insemination still needs be improved. Based on LQ 11 existing sub-districts, 4 sub-districts are base areas for cattle, namely Koto Besar, Salak, Tiumang, Sitiung sub-districts. SEM estimation results show technical aspects (X1) social (X2) have significant effect productivity (Y1) with resulting probability value (p) < 0.05. variable economic aspect (X3) has no (Y1), positive population (Y2).
